Chehel Sotoun is a pavilion for royal receptions set within a Safavid garden. Its twenty wooden columns are mirrored in the long pool, giving rise to the poetic name “Forty Columns.” Mirrorwork and murals of courtly receptions and battles turn political history into spectacle, while the garden itself forms part of UNESCO’s Persian Garden World Heritage property.
