Baqerabad Castle
Yazd · Bafq
History & Architecture

In the village of Baqerabad near Bafq, Yazd Province, this Qajar-era castle rises from a landscape of date palms and arid plains. Its mudbrick enclosure, two watchtowers and interconnected spaces reflect the defensive architecture of Iran’s desert settlements.
Built in stages, the fortress provided villagers with shelter during periods of insecurity and also served to safeguard grain. From above, the contrast between the earthen walls and surrounding palm groves makes the site particularly striking.
Baqerabad Castle is listed among Iran’s nationally registered heritage monuments under registration number 13000.
